Masquerade 
Steel horse mask, chain 2019

Masquerade focuses on the celebrity spotlight on the #METOO movement that encouraged women to put on a brave face and stand up against abuse. Inspired by common phrases ‘hard as nails’ and ‘made of steel’.
 
A powerful steel mask against a fringe of heavy-duty chain to represent the strength in women. The mask is inspired by Native American horse masks that are used for spiritual protection and intimidation whilst the chain is representative of the restriction of women but also suggests power and strength.
 
Horses are depicted through history as masculine, strong and fearful animals, however they are actually very delicate and sensitive characters. The horse in my work as a representation of myself.
