Sincere Severity
Sincere Severity is a duo exhibition of contemporary sculptural works by visual artists Eilidh Reilly and Chandelle Waugh. Whilst studying at Glasgow School of art, Eilidh and Chandelle became aware of the shared nature of their artistic practices: drawing from personal experiences, each woman’s work is driven by the desire to explore the systems of inequality in our culture that normalise and perpetuate gender-based oppression. Through this coming together of “Alright Doll” by Eilidh Reilly and “Fruit of The Womb” by Chandelle Waugh, Sincere Severity hopes to unpack the shame and blame that our society uniquely forces upon women. Each artist’s work, distinct in its own right, will use this shared space to converse, offering different perspectives on autonomy and personal preservation, on violence and coercion, on toxic masculinity and its long-lasting effects on the mental health of the women it touches. |
